Federal Medical & Dental College (FMDC)
is the long awaited first public sector Medical College in the
capital city of Pakistan. The college is duly recognized by PMDC
and is affiliated with the Quaid-e-Azam University, which is
ranked as the number one university of Pakistan by Higher
Education Commission HEC.
The institute caters for students
from all over Pakistan with seats reserved for all the provinces
as per approved government quota. PIMS is the main affiliated
hospital; however, additionally Federal General Hospital has
been up-graded at NIH to a 200 bedded facility for provision of
clinical learning opportunities for the students.
To standardize undergraduate medical
education for the promotion and improvement of medical research
culture, various interactive sessions, small group activities
and demonstrations are being conducted.
The need to inculcate the concepts of lifelong learning into
teaching and learning across all levels is being increasingly
recognized. FM & DC stands responsible for the undergraduate
training and continuing medical education of health
professionals. The curricula of educational program being
offered also includes orientation on priority health problems in
all segments of the community, which are observed both in the
hospital and community setting along with the range of health
issues from health promotion to palliative care.
FM & DC is committed to ensure that the learning environment
responds to the ever-increasing knowledge base and leads to the
turnout of well-rounded professionals. It is also equally
important to make certain that students understand the role and
contribution of various health care disciplines and also have
the ability to practice within a multi disciplinary approach.
