Candidates allowed to reappear, improve marks – Federal Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education FBISE Islamabad
ISLAMABAD – The Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education [FBISE} has announced to give special chance to first year students to reappear in Chemistry examination during the Supplementary Examination 2012 to improve their marks in addition to two chances of reappearing in two subjects allowed in the rules.
Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) Chairperson Shaheen Khan told TheNation that the board had received many complaints from teachers, students and their parents regarding the pattern of paper and strict marking and they were not satisfied with their results.
She said, though, the paper was not out of course still the board considering it a hardship case decided to give relief to the students and gave a special chance to improve their grades.
The students, according to rules, are already given chance to improve their grades in two subjects in supplementary exams and in addition to that chance they have been given an opportunity to reappear in Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) Part-I Chemistry exam to improve their grades.
She was of the view that the rules and regulations of the Federal Board were already considered strict as compared to other boards of the provinces thus, the decision was taken to facilitate the school administrations and the students.
The first year students from Karachi and other areas had protested and expressed grave concerns over out of pattern Chemistry paper saying that some questions of the Chemistry paper were out of the syllabus, which could seriously affect their grades as science students have to get higher marks to get admissions in medical and engineering colleges. According to information many average students could not attempt the paper and failed the exam.
The FBISE had announced the results of HSSC Part-I Annual Examination, 2012 on August 13 in which overall pass percentage remained 49.87 per cent and about 50 percent failed the exam. The examination was started in April and concluded in June 2012. The supplementary examinations would be held from November 6, 2012.
According to a statement issued by the board, a committee formed by the Chairperson had met on August 17 to deliberate on the issue and decided to give extra chance to the students to take Chemistry Part-I exam in Supplementary Exams 2012 besides allowed chances according to improvement rules.
Those who feel they have not attained marks according to their expectations may benefit from the opportunity, the statement said.
