Entry requirements

Applicants are required to have the following qualifications for the specified courses or programs:

I. Chinese Language Programs:

Applicants should be in good health with the age between 18—60. No limit on Chinese language ability.

II. UndergraduatePrograms:

Applicants should graduate from a high school, be in good health. Those who apply for Science and /or Engineering studies and have passed the level-3 HSK or above, and who apply for Liberal Arts studies and have passed the level-5 HSK or above can directly start their study in the relevant schools. Those who have failed to pass the HSK can first apply for study in the Chinese Language Programs for a full year or half year in ZZU before their major studies.

III. Master Programs:

Applicants should have a Bachelor’s Degree, be in good health. Those who apply for Science and /or Engineering studies and have passed the level-5 HSK or above, and who apply for Liberal Arts studies and have passed the level-7 HSK or above can directly start their study in the relevant schools. Those who have failed to pass the HSK can first apply for study in the Chinese Language Programs for a full year or half year in ZZU before their major studies.

IV. Doctor Programs:

Applicants should have a Master’s Degree, be in good health. Those who apply for Science and /or Engineering studies and have passed the level-5 HSK or above, and who apply for Liberal Arts studies and have passed the level-7 HSK or above can directly start their study in the relevant schools. Those who have failed to pass the HSK can first apply for study in the Chinese Language Program for a full year or half year in ZZU before their major studies.

V. Programs instructed in English (Medicine Majors):

Possess relative academic foundation, be good in condition, come from the English-speaking countries, or IELTS score reaches 6.0 or TOEFL score reaches 530.

Chinese Language Program

The Centre for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (CTCFL) of School of International Education (SIE) aims to teach Chinese language and culture to overseas students or overseas Chinese. It includes Chinese courses for undergraduate overseas students, Chinese courses ranging from 6 months to 3 years for language students and various-level short-term intensified Chinese courses covering two weeks to three months. Students will receive all-round Chinese training in terms of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. By the end of the study, students who pass the required courses will be awarded the Certificate of Completion.

CTCFL enrolled students to learn Chinese all year round. Students will be categorized according to their Chinese level as follows: 1. Zero level start courses, which aim to beginners with no Chinese foundation. Give lessons on basic words, grammar and daily dialogues to prepare for next step to study some primary knowledge of Chinese. 2. Primary Chinese Courses. Students are trained to improve their capability of listening, speaking, reading and writing Chinese. After one academic year study, most of students may obtain the 3rd level certificate of HSK. 3. Intermediate Chinese Courses. Students are taught to grasp the basic skills of listening, speaking, reading, writing, and translating; know the basic Chinese traditional culture; have a preliminary understanding of Chinese traditional culture, and possess oral Chinese communication ability and Chinese written expression ability. After finishing the study, most of students may obtain the 5th-level certificate of HSK. 4. Advanced Chinese Courses. Further strengthen students’ abilities of listening, speaking, reading, writing and translating, and gain deeper insights to Chinese traditional culture. After finishing the courses, most of students can obtain the 8th-level certificate of HSK.

CTCFL has a team of faculty resources with high teaching ability and rich teaching experience. The teachers of CTCFL are good at comparing the languages to seek some efficient ways to solve students’ problems on grammar and pronunciation, and to the maximum extent stimulate students’ enthusiasm for language study in the insipid study. Furthermore, CTCFL is holding a series of studies on teaching Chinese as a foreign language, and striving to form our special style and system on Chinese teaching.

In recent years, teaching Chinese as a foreign language develops rapidly in Zhengzhou University. CTCFL has not only brought up a number of overseas students around the world, but also has formed the solid cooperation with universities and institutes abroad, such as the frequent exchange activities with Kyungsung University in Korea, Kyungpook University in Korea, Irkutsk State University in Russia. Except teaching the students from these universities Chinese language and holding short-term Chinese Courses, CTCFL often send teachers to these universities to undertake some tasks of teaching and spreading Chinese language and culture.

Introduction to the Schedule of Training Courses for Overseas Students

Short-term: duration: 2 weeks -12weeks

18hrs-20hrs per week (18hrs for the specialties, 2hrs for the elective)

Specialties: Chinese, oral Chinese, intensive reading (Pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar)

Note: The contents of courses could be altered according to students’ requirements and their Chinese ability.

One can be enrolled at any moment and we will hold an individual class in case that there are more than 10 students.

Long-term: one semester, one year, 2 years, 3 years

●Students without any previous knowledge of Chinese will be categorized to zero-level courses

●Students with basic Chinese knowledge will take part in an entrance examination and be categorized to elementary, intermediate or advanced classes according to their Chinese ability.

●18hrs-20hrs per week (18hrs for the specialties, 2hrs for the elective)

Any of the subjects above is available for students to choose. If one is interested more than one subject, he or she could choose more. The extra courses exceeding 20hrs/week will be charged according to the rules.

Extracurricular activities could be arranged according to students’ requirements. The expenses will be covered by the students.

The tour destinations are mainly local scenic spots in Henan (Zhengzhou Shaolin Temple, Luoyang Longmen Grottoes, Capital of Song Dynasty Kaifeng, Anyang Yinxu) the tour routes and ways of tours will be decided by students.

Medicine Education

Introduction to the Medical College

Medical College of Zhengzhou University is former Henan Medical University. The college now has 7 faculties (such as clinical medicine, public health, pediatric medicine, pharmacology, stomatological medicine, medical tests and higher nursing) and 5 affiliated hospitals.

Now the college has a staff of more than 1300 experts, professors and teachers, more than 4200 students and 210 foreign students, 15 doctor tutors and more than 200 postgraduate tutors. Now Medical College of Zhengzhou University is an influenced institution of high level on teaching, scientific research and medical care in the world.

Basic Medical College of Zhengzhou University

The precursor of Basic Medical College of Zhengzhou University is a foundational medical college of original Henan Medical University. It was founded in 1928, and possesses the very highly good reputation in the world. The university has 3 Ph.D. degree programs of specialties,23 M.A degree programs of Specialties, and 2 postdoctoral medical research stations.

College of Basic Science of Medicine comprises 13 Departments, 1 Experiment Teaching Center and 14 Institutes. Multiple academic fields of study in the school involved Pathology/Pathophysiology, Anatomy/Histology and Embryology, Physiology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Human Parasitology, Medical Microbiology, Neurobiology, Pharmacology and they are offered in undergraduate and post-graduate programs. Within these disciplines, 6 Doctoral degree programs, 11 Master’s degree programs, as well as 1 post-doctoral research stations, 6 Province Class key academic fields and 8 Province Class outstanding courses.???

College of Basic Science of Medicine now has 1.64 thousand undergraduate students; 300 post-graduates, and more than 200 foreign students. It has a well-educated faculty and teaching staff of 137 teachers. Among them are 28 professors, 39 associate professors; 12 of them tutor Doctor’s degree students and 46 tutor Master’s degree students.???

College of Basic Science of Medicine has outstanding advantages in research of Etiology and Pathology of esophageal cancer; molecular mechanisms of carcinogenesis; gene regulation and function; tumor immunology; tumor biothorapy (dendritic cell-antigen vaccines); tropical disease research. Scientific research in these ranks either first inside China or holds an advanced level in the international field.

In recent 5 years, College of Basic Science of Medicine has won 57 prizes of “National Advance of Sciences and Technology” and “Henan Province Advance of Sciences and Technology”, thus making outstanding contributions to the economic construction of both the Nation and of Henan Province, as well as to the development of society.

Clinical Medicine Department

Clinical Medicine Department has a long history and great prestige. It has been developing a stronger and larger department over 80 years. It has 5 large comprehensive affiliated hospitals as well as 16 large comprehensive hospitals as teaching bases for clinical medicine. Currently, it has a workforce of 3045 teachers and doctors, including 2 academicians , 19 professors especially engaged by Henan provincial government, 48 visiting professors, 44 doctoral supervisors, 269 master mentors, 227 professors and 372 associate professors. There are 150 teachers with doctor’s degree and 397 teachers with master’s degree among the staffs. All these have formed a rational subject structure. In recent 3 years, the various subjects of Clinical Medicine Department have been supported by several funds accounting for 88.624 million (RMB). Clinical Medicine Department also assumes 350 scientific research items, and has acquired 260 prizes of scientific progress at various grades for recent five years and published 750 theses each year. Clinical Medicine Department convenes 25 academic conferences annually and has established relationship with 10 countries in medicine, teaching and research, which offers better opportunities and environment for medical education.

Pharmacy College of Zhengzhou University

Pharmacy College of Zhengzhou University developed from the Pharmacy Department which was established in 1992 in former Henan Medical University,combined with the related specialties of the former Zhengzhou University and Zhengzhou Industrial University. It has Pharmacy and Pharmaceutics specialties of undergraduate courses. It is the first Pharmacy College in Henan Province and now can accept 160 undergraduates every year. The Pharmacy College now has 1 unit of the first class of disciplines for master degree and 1 unit of medicinal chemistry for doctor degree. There are nearly 100 graduate students, 1000 full-time students and multi-levels of Adult Education. The College has set up New Drug Research and Development Center and Research Center for Nanoparticle Drug. Medicinal Chemistry was the key discipline of Henan Province and selected as one of 6 key subjects for the Zhengzhou University “211 Project”. The Pharmacy College is also the training base of Pharmacists in Henan province.

There are more than 60 teachers and staff members now in the college, among whom more than 20 are professors, 30 doctors, including 1 “distinguished professor of Henan Province”, 3 tutors for doctor candidates and 20 tutors for master candidates. In order to train high quality pharmaceutical graduates, the College has endeavored to reform teaching methods and achieved awards of the University and the Province. Several teachers have taken part in the compilation of pharmaceutical teaching material. By relying on its comprehensive advantages and high qualified teachers, the college has successively undertaken dozens of scientific research projects, including national natural science foundation projects, national 863 projects, research projects for international exchange and corporation from national natural science foundation and key scientific research project from Henan Province as well as some “Scientific Foundation project for Distinguished Young Persons ” , “Henan Province Medical Innovation engineering project ”and so on .

The College possesses modern and advancing precision instruments such as 400M-NMR, HRMS, IR, GS, Spectrofluorophotometer, High-Speed Refrigerated Centirifuge, HPLC, HPCE, Dual-wavelength slide scanner, Laser ZetaSizer.
