Admission Guidelines

The Foundation University Medical College (FUMC) is open to all the eligible candidates from anywhere in the world. The boys and girls from all over Pakistan and overseas can apply for admission. The admission is purely based on merit in accordance with the PM&DC regulations. There is no provision for admission in FUMC against any type of donations.

Number of Seats Available

There are one hundred (100) seats available each year for admission. The seats are distributed as under:

Open Merit: 80
To include the Wards of:

  • Pakistani Resident

    • A Pakistani national who stayed in Pakistan for more than 182 days during the year ending on the date, an affidavit (specified by the FUMC and placed in the application kit) is signed and intends to continue this status in the near future.

  • Expatriate

    • A Pakistani earning abroad, irrespective of his family living with him or in Pakistan.

  • Foreigner

    • A person having foreign nationality or dual nationality i.e. foreign & Pakistani.

    • A Pakistani applicant, whose parents are working abroad, will be treated as ward of expatriate/foreigner and advised to apply for admission as such

    • The attesting authorities, where not mentioned, will be as per the rules of Government of Pakistan.

To include the wards of

  • Retired Defence personnel (13)

  • Serving Defence personnel (06)

  • Fauji Foundation employees (01)

Eligibility Conditions for Admission

  • The applicants must have secured at least 65% marks in the Intermediate (Pre-Medical) Examination from a Board of Intermediate and & Secondary Education in Pakistan or an equated foreign qualification.

  • The admission in FUMC will not be granted to candidates who fail in any compulsory subject in intermediate exam. However, provisional admissions can be allowed where results are awaited and if such students fail on declaration of results, their admission will be cancelled.

Equivalence Certificates

It is the responsibility of all those candidates having foreign qualifications i.e. other than Matric/F.Sc. (Pre-Medical) from Pakistan, to obtain recognition of their qualifications and equivalence certificates from the Inter-Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC), Islamabad.

Admission Procedure

Applications for admission are invited through advertisement in leading national english and urdu newspapers well before the start of the academic session. The last date for submission of applications is notified there in.

The foreign students seeking admission in the FUMC should submit their applications along-with the application fee through their Embassies/ High commissions in Pakistan.

The admission forms and the salient features of the prospectus  can be downloaded from this website. The candidates may download the application form and mail it alongwith a bank draft of Rs. 2200/- for inland US $80.00 for foreign candidates.

Application for Admission

The non-refundable processing fee for the applicants residing in Pakistan is Rs.1500/- and for the overseas applicants US $50/-. This fee is payable by a bank draft in favour of the Foundation University Medical College, drawn on the Union Bank Limited the Mall Road Branch Rawalpindi. Money orders, postal orders and personal cheques will not be accepted. The processing fee covers the processing of the application and the entry test.

Documents to be Submitted

A candidate, who is eligible for admission, must submit original/attested copies (as indicated against each) of the following documents alongwith the application form and the bank draft covering the application fee:

  • SSC or equivalent foreign qualification certificate (One Copy)

  • HSSC. (pre-medical) or an equivalent foreign qualification certificate (One Copy)

  • Equivalence certificate from Inter-Board Committee of Chairmen, Islamabad (in case of foreign qualification) (One Copy)

  • National Identity Card/Form B of the candidate (One Copy)

  • National Identity Card of Father/ Guardian (One Copy)

  • Certificate of residence on a judicial paper (in case of Pakistani Residents only; as per the specimen placed in the application kit) (Original)

  • The expatriate candidates will provide the following documents:

*    SAT II Examination Score with minimum 550 marks in each subject-

*    Valid TOEFL on IELTS with a score of 500 or 5.5.

*    Oversease Employee ID Card (Photocopy)

*    Passport with visa                     (Photocopy)

*    Letter from the employer abroad(Original) OR Workpermit (Photocopy)

  • Defence Service Certificate of the Parents:

    • Duly signed by the commanding officer of the father/mother, serving in the Pakistan Armed Forces.

    • In case the parents are retired from the Defence Services, a copy of the pension book and family identity card attested by a serving/retired Commissioned Officer.

  • Entry Test Admit Cards (2, in the application kit) duly completed, as advised there in (Original 2)

These documents should be posted through a reliable service or delivered in person to the College office from Mondays to Fridays between 9:00 am and 12:00 noon, on or before the last date of receipt of the application as advertised.

Selection Procedure

The applications for admission are reviewed by the College Admission Committee and the selection procedure for admission is designed by the senior faculty members as approved by the University.

  • It is mandatory for all the applicants, includindg expatriates/foregners, to appear in the Entry Test, administered by the College/University.

  • The relative weightage of all the components of the Admission process i.e. the academic achievements in SSC,HSSC or its equivalent examination, and the Entry Test  are added to arrive at the final merit.

  • The weightage, in line with the PM&DC Regulations, for calculation of the merit is as under:

    • HSSC/Equivalent = 70 %

    • Entry Test = 30%

  • In the final merit, wherever two candidates are bracketed, the one senior in age will receive preference.

  • The decisions of the Admission Committee are irrevocable and non-negotiable. The authorities are not bound to explain the reasons for their decisions to the applicants, their parents or guardians.

  • A medical board, arranged by the University, will examine the selected candidates. The candidates should possess adequate mental and physical health to be able to obtain medical education as prescribed by the PM&DC and be able to practice at least as a General Duty Medical Officer/General Practitioner. An amount of    Rs. 1500/- will be charged for medical examination. A candidate declared unfit by the medical board will not be admitted.

The admission letter to a foreign candidate will not be issued, unless a clearance certificate from the Ministry of Education, Government of Pakistan is received and the candidate has a valid Student/Study Visa. As per the Government of Pakistan rules, the Tourist or Visit visas do not entitle a foreign student to seek admission in any educational institution in Pakistan.

Entry Test

The entry test is conducted simultaneously at various cities in Pakistan. It is a one hour test, based on multiple choice questions. The subjects included in the entry test paper are Biology, Chemistry and Physics. All applicants will receive an Entry Test Admit Card with necessary instructions. The entrance to the examination hall for the Entry Test will not be allowed without the Admit card duly endorsed by the College authorities.

All those applicants, who fail to appear in the entry test, will not be considered further.

Registration

The students admitted to the College shall be registered with the Foundation University, Islamabad, through the Dean/Principal, Foundation University Medical College.

The students shall also be registered with the PM&DC as Medical Students through FUI.

Note: All the candidates selected for admission will have to submit to the College authorities, the original certificates of SSC/equivalent and HSSC./equivalent qualification, before joining the college. These certificates will be returned to the students after graduation or at the time of their leaving the College/University.
