An unpleasant situation was witnessed at the office of the Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education (BISE,) Lahore, when a large number of candidates, who still have not been given the results of the intermediate annual examination 2011, invaded the computer section of the board on Saturday.
Th1e candidates were desperate as the last date for submission of forms for undergraduate programme at many educational institutions approaches fast. At the Punjab University, September 17 was the last date; however it has now been extended till September 21.
The Lahore board along with other boards announced the result of intermediate exam 2011 on September 10. However, besides blatant errors in result of hundreds of candidates, the result of thousands of candidates was placed under Result Later (RL) category.
The obvious fact that anyone failing to get his/her result card would not be able get admission, made the candidates go crazy.
A large number of candidates have been visiting board office on daily basis to get their results corrected while others have been trying to know their fate, so that they might be able to get admissions for further studies.
On Saturday, a large number of students allegedly broke the door of the computer section while the staffs deputed there fled to avoid manhandling or any untoward situation. The students protested and chanted slogans against the government. Later, the BISE authorities had to call in police. It is pertinent to mention that the BISE authorities had to revise list of the toppers in Humanities Group (Among Girls) very next day after announcement of the intermediate exams result this year, when result of a candidate was rectified who eventually clinched first position in the group.
Similarly another example of blatant error in the results was award of 52 marks to a candidate in the subject of Pakistan Studies out of total 50 marks by the BISE Lahore.
Sources in the BISE said the result of over 10,000 candidates was RL while the number of those visiting the board office for correction in result was also in thousands.
The News could not reach BISE controller exam Ijaz Hussain and secretary Mushtaq Tahir for comments.
Mushtaq Tahir is also serving as acting chairman the BISE after the tenure of Dr Akram Kashmiri expired.
The candidates have urged the chief minister, Punjab, to take notice of the situation and provide relief to them. They also urged the Chief Justice of Lahore High Court to take suo motu notice and save future of the students.
Meanwhile, a spokesman of the Punjab government has said that admission of any student to the next class will not be stopped due to delay in intermediate result card and if needed, the date of admission would be extended. Therefore, parents and students should not worry, he added
