Fatima Jinnah Medical College, Lahore, Pakistan

About Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Lahore

Teaching Hospital Affiliated to Fatima Jinnah Medical College

Sir Ganga Ram Hospital is situated in the heart of city, close to main artery of Lahore (Shahra-i-Quaid-iAzam) and Punjab Assembly. Already surrounded by thickly populated area the hospital not only caters to western and southern part of the city, but also provides services to the areas of adjacent districts of Lahore. In view of its distinctive status, it has the busiest Obstetric./Gynecology, department headed by highly qualified staff of three professorial units. The sanctioned bed strength of the hospital is 700, but the average number of admissions usually touches the figure of 800. The hospital mostly caters for poor and underprivileged class.

Although the number of students in F.J. Medical College has increased but the teaching beds remain the same at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. To overcome this problem, we acquired 23 kanals of land close to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, where we have started construction of 400 bedded hospital on self help basis for teaching specialties and support facilities to be extended proportionately. Name of this new hospital is Fatima Jinnah Block and we hope to get a matching financial grant from Provincial & Federal Governments so that we are able to complete this project of public welfare. This will not only relieve the patient’s congestion but also new departments will be established along with subspecialties which will go a long way in the training of under and post-graduates.

Electro-medical equipment worth Rs.150 million have been purchased last year for operation theatres, ICU, CCU and new operation tables, lights, close circuit T.V. for teaching, ventilators, cardiac defibrillators, monitors have been provided. Radiology Department has been equipped with state of the art C.T. Scan, Mammography, 3D Color Doppler and new X-Ray machines. All these facilities are available to poor patient free of cost.

Hospital Building PlanSimilarly state of the art equipment has been purchased for the Eye Department and it is the best equipped department in public sector in the country. A lot of new equipment for medical & obstetrics/gynecology. Departments have been provided and commissioned and we hope this will go a long way in providing best medical facilities to the people of Lahore and Punjab.

FJMC enjoys an illustrious position owing to its attachment to “Madr-i-Millat” Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah and “Quaid-i-Azam” Mohammad Ali Jinnah and in view of its special and unique disposition of being exclusively for women, all parameters of an excellent MEDICAL UNIVERSITY for women are therefore available to attract the attention of the government to confer upon it the status of a university especially in view of the avowed policy of the President of Pakistan to give special and preferential treatment to all matters related to the women. A strong resolution in this respect has been passed by the Academic Council of FJMC and is strongly supported by the Board of Management, FJMC/SGRH.
